Have buttons, will mash

My little brother asked me to play Super Smash Brothers Melee with him. Fifteen minutes of button mashing and I was through; I’d imagine the game to be more entertaining if you knew moves for your character. Unfortunately, picking the game up once every few months doesn’t embolden yourself with such knowledge. I remember playing Super Smash Brothers back on Nintendo 64; that was quite the party game. You know, go to a friends house, rally up four controllers, pick your favorite character and beat the crap out of your friend’s Nintendo-y exterior. I do, however, remember not owning that one, either.

Mike's Goals for a reason

There’s a reason that when I signed up at Joe’s Goals, my page was entitled Mike’s Goals: they’re mine. This means I should do them, but as you can tell, I haven’t been. When I first signed up for Joe’s Goals, things were rocky; but before long, I had as many as 11 points in a day. Then as with most things geared toward making changes that require time and a regular schedule, things tapered off again, bringing me to now. After a three day stretch of NOTHING, I’ve begun placing little green check marks on my chart again.

Working at home is actually very tough; it requires a lot of discipline, and takes a lot of self-control to set a schedule and stick to it. A lot of people say, “Oh, it must be nice to work at home,” and it is. It also has its downsides, like sleeping until noon because you can and then staying up until 4am to make up for sleeping all morning. Now, there’s nothing wrong with a 2nd-3rd shift schedule; it just makes interacting with anyone not on a 2nd-3rd shift schedule very difficult. That, and it’s nice being awake during the day, seeing sunlight.

The Internet is for porn

To make up for my lack of posts this past week, I present you this video

(NSFW) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=etVCUmgfMag

Entitled Internet is for porn, this is a World of Warcraft musical explaining why the Internet was born. Catchy music, and damn funny.

Planets put into perspective

This Google video puts a good dozen of the known planets into a truly awesome perspective. As noted on digg, if you take the distance between the Earth and Sun (149,000,000km) and multiply it by 25, you get approximately the diameter of VV Cephei (3,676,200,000km). That’s just unreal.

This image seems to be slightly more accurate in it’s proportions, however the true scale of it is somewhat lost due to its static nature.

Head colds and terminals

Been pretty busy lately, and this head cold is finally starting to wane; proper entries to resume shortly.

Yesterday I untinstalled Ubuntu Linux 6.10 and replacedit with Ubuntu 6.06, a more stable release. Dual booting Linux and Windows isn’t necessary for me, but I thought I’d gain some experience and give Linux an honest go.

Also of noteable mention, I have an interview Monday for Layer One Media in downtown Milwaukee. Check out their portfolio; there’s some really good stuff in there.
